Jeffrey Sachs is a renowned expert on global development issues, currently serving as a professor of economics and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University. He has been an advisor to several United Nations Secretaries-General, including Kofi Annan, Ban Ki-moon, and António Guterres. Often referred to as the "father of shock therapy" for his work on economic reforms, Sachs has provided advice to governments in Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, and Mongolia.
From 2001 to 2018, he played a crucial role in formulating the UN's global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is currently the Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). Twice named among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, Sachs is regarded by The New York Times as "perhaps the most important economist in the world," and he was listed among the top three most influential economists globally by The Economist.
