Michael B. McElroy is a distinguished environmental science expert, serving as the Gilbert Butler Professor of Environmental Studies at Harvard University. Appointed as a tenured professor at Harvard at the age of 29, McElroy founded the university's departments of Environmental Science and Public Policy and Earth and Planetary Sciences, serving as the inaugural chair for both. He also established the Harvard Center for the Environment and has led the university's China Project Group, which focuses on fostering U.S.-China cooperation on environmental, climate, and energy issues. McElroy has been an environmental advisor to the U.S. government and was described by former U.S. Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Al Gore as his "mentor on climate change."
