Anders Wijkman, born in 1944 in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish politician. He served as an Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1995 to 1997 and as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009, focusing on issues such as climate change, environment, development cooperation, and humanitarian affairs.
He has also held positions as a Member of the Swedish Parliament, Secretary-General of the Swedish Red Cross, and Chairman of the International Red Cross Disaster Relief Commission. He is a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences and a board member of the World Future Council (WFC).
Wijkman is the Honorary President of the Club of Rome, having served as its co-chair from 2012 to 2022. The Club of Rome is an international think tank and research organization known for its pioneering work in future studies and global issues. Its landmark report "The Limits to Growth," published in 1972, is considered one of the most influential books of the 20th century.
